23-year-old second year university student suffering from brain tumour has been taken back to Pandya hospital for intensive care.
Rose Akinyi Taka from Senti Kumi in Likoni Mombasa was first diagnosed with brain tumor in August 2023 while in her second year.
Akinyi's mother, Pauline Aloo, had in March this year went to the media appealing to wellwishers for financial help but was not lucky to get any assistance.
Aloo said their family had run out of resources and had even been forced to deposit their land title deed to Agakhan hospital to have her discharged because of a pending bill of 3.2M.
That they were also fighting several bank debts following loans they had borrowed to cater for their daughter's medical bills.
In April last year, Akinyi also developed severe right vestibular schwannoma, also known as acoustic neuroma, a benign tumour that affects the nerves of the inner ear leading haemorrhagic stroke.
This had left her with loss of hearing, dizziness, and balance issues.
Despite her condition, Akinyi's family had been forced to have her discharged from the hospital due to the soaring hospital bill.
On Friday last week, Akinyi's condition deteriorated and was again rushed to Pandya hospital, where she was admitted under the intensive care unit.
Four days now, Akinyi is still under ICU.
The family is again appealing to the government and Kenyans of goodwill to come to their aid and save the life of their daughter.
"Good morning Mr Maseke, this is the mother to Rose at senti kumi,my daughter's condition changed and she had to be rushed to the hospital, She coded, couldn't breath well. currently she's in the ICU at Pandya, please highlight her plight, I really, really need help" Aloo pleaded in a text message.
One of the referral letters dated 22/11/2023, authored by doctor Njeru PK, a neurosurgeon at the KNH, indicated that Akinyi”s health could stand to undergo surgery and recommended for her to undergo a cyberknife operation.
“Surgery is highly risk. Cyberknife is recommended” the note read partly
CyberKnife is a non-invasive treatment that uses a robotic arm to deliver radiation to tumours.
On June 5 last year. Dr. Chris, a physician at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa, had also indicated that Akinyi had reported facial paralysis and persistent headache.
